Victims of Salmonella outbreaks may develop long-term complications such as[ irritable bowel syndrome](http://www.about-irritablebowelsyndrome.com/ " irritable bowel syndrome") or [reactive arthritis](http://www.about-reactive-arthritis.com/reiters_syndrome_symptoms_risks "reactive arthritis"), which can both be debilitating.
