Toyo Tire Salmonella Outbreak and Lawsuits - Georgia (2017)

The Salmonella attorneys at Marler Clark represented several individuals in this outbreak. All cases are resolved at this time.

The Georgia Department of Public Health confirmed that Salmonella sickened people at an employee event catered by Angelo’s New York Style Pizza and Bistro, a Cartersville-based restaurant, last week at Toyo Tire Company in White, Georgia.

State inspectors took samples from people who fell ill after the event, which led to five people being hospitalized.

Angelo’s New York Style Pizza and Bistro voluntarily closed.

In the meantime, workers from the restaurant received what is called "rigorous training in safe food handling from the Bartow County Health Department."

Approximately 1,800 Toyo Tire employees attended the event.

Although a specific food has not yet been confirmed as the source of the Salmonella, public health officials are confident the illnesses are linked to a Nov. 14-15 event at the tire plant in White, GA. Investigators attempted to narrow down the specific foods eaten by people who became ill and those who did not.

The state health department confirmed that the outbreak was caused by Salmonella when lab tests on samples from multiple sick people returned positive results for the pathogen.
