CHICAGO -- The Chicago Department of Public Health is investigating reports of food-borne illness at this year's Taste of Chicago.
The CDPH said in a news release that it is investigating a "handfull of cases of salmonellosis that appear to be related to the Pars Cove Parisian Cuisine booth."
CDPH Commissioner Terry Mason said in the release that salmonella sickness is very common and most people recover from it with no need for treatment, but "we're not taking any chances with this situation."
"In some cases, salmonellosis can be quite dangerous for the very young, the very old, and people with weakened immune systems," Mason said.
The Pars Cove situation is the first confirmed outbreak of illness associated with the Taste in at least 20 years, according to the release.
People who ate at the Pars Cove booth and who feel ill should first contact their doctor and then call the city's 311 line to report their symptoms. Outside of Chicago, city health officials can be reached at (312) 744-5000.
