Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Chesterton Restaurant

CHESTERTON, IN — At least five individuals became ill with Salmonella infections after eating at the Lakeshore Café and Family Restaurant located at 475 Sand Creek Drive in Chesterton, Indiana, during the month of October, according to Porter County health officials. The Porter County Health Department continues its investigation into whether a particular food vehicle can be pinpointed as the cause of the outbreak.

Two Lakeshore Café customers remain hospitalized, and the restaurant voluntarily closed on November 9 at the request of health officials. Employees are currently being tested to see whether they could have contributed to or caused the Salmonella outbreak.

Marler Clark, the Seattle law firm nationally recognized for its successful representation of foodborne illness victims, sponsors, a Web site that provides information on the symptoms and risks involved with Salmonella infection. “We know that many people turn to the Web as their first source of information, and having represented hundreds of victims of Salmonella poisoning, we have heard time and again how helpful the information provided on this site is,” said William Marler, managing partner of Marler Clark.

In the last year, Marler Clark has filed eleven lawsuits on behalf of Salmonella poisoning victims, and has settled hundreds of cases out of court. Most notably, the firm represented over fifty victims of Salmonella poisoning stemming from an outbreak at a Chili’s Grill & Bar outside of Chicago in June and July of 2003 that sickened over 300 people and was traced to infected food-workers.

“It is natural for victims to want to find out more about this illness, and through this website, we are providing one of the most comprehensive resources on Salmonella that is out there on the Web,” Marler added. The firm also sponsors the site, where Marler Clark clients can go for updates on their case’s progress.
