The Minnesota Departments of Health and Agriculture warned consumers to avoid eating whole-muscle turkey jerky sold at the Hoffman Town & Country Meat Market of Detroit Lakes on August 23, 2012 after 4 Salmonella cases were traced to the turkey jerky. According to the Department of Health, four people reported eating turkey jerky during the week prior to becoming ill with Salmonella.
In a press release, the public health agencies stated that one person tested positive for Salmonella after eating the turkey jerky lives in the Twin Cities metro area. The other Salmonella outbreak victims live in Greater Minnesota. One of the cases was hospitalized, but all have recovered.
Hoffman Town & Country Meat Market has issued a voluntary recall of all whole-muscle turkey jerky product sold on or before August 21, 2012. The turkey jerky was sold wrapped in white butcher paper. Public health officials urged anyone who purchased the potentially Salmonella-contaminated turkey jerky to discard the product.
