On January 23, 2010, Daniele announced that it was recalling approximately 1,240,000 pounds of ready-to-eat varieties of Italian sausage products, including its peppered salame, for potential *Salmonella* contamination. Daniele purchased black pepper from two different distributors, Mincing Overseas Spice and Wholesome Spice, who buy imported black pepper.
