The contaminated juice was manufactured by Sun Orchard, an Arizona company that claims on its website that “appropriate measures (such as adequate sanitation and proper temperatures) are always taken to ensure the safest fresh product.”The named plaintiffs in the lawsuit are Jim and Fiona Jackson, the parents of Ian Jackson, a 4 year old boy who became seriously ill when he drank Sun Orchard orange juice contaminated with Salmonella. As Sun Orchard concedes in its own press release, "Salmonella muenchen is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail, and elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems."
