CHICAGO - A Chicago man who says he was sickened in a nationwide salmonella outbreak is suing three food companies.
Fifty-five-year-old Raymond Cirimele's (seer-uh-MEHL'-eez) lawsuit claims salami containing tainted pepper made him sick.
The lawsuit filed in Cook County on Thursday names Rhode Island meat company Daniele (dan-YEHL'-ee) International, Wholesome Spice in New York and Mincing Overseas Spice Company in New Jersey.
A similar lawsuit against Daniele and Wholesome Spice was filed by 61-year-old Harold Hanks of Lake Ozark, Mo., last week.
Daniele has recalled salami and changed its spice suppliers.
A Wholesome Spice spokesman says regulators cleared the plant for production. And an attorney for the New Jersey company says there's no evidence of negligence.
