Salmonella in Sushi Causes Outbreak Among 390 in 27 States; 47 Hospitalized

Marler Clark Attorneys Representing Victims of Sushi Salmonella Outbreak

The Marler Clark attorneys filed a sushi Salmonella lawsuit on behalf of an Oregon man on May 4, 2012.

When the Salmonella outbreak was first announced, the CDC and FDA suspected sushi to be the source of the Salmonella outbreak. On April 13, 2012, the CDC announced that a frozen raw yellowfin tuna product, known as Nakaochi Scrape, from Moon Marine USA Corporation, is the source of the Salmonella outbreak. According to the CDC, information indicates that the Salmonella-contaminated yellowfin tuna product came from a single tuna processing facility in India.

Marler Clark attorney Bill Marler called on Moon Marine USA to release its distribution list on June 22. Marler noted that nearly 6 months had passed since the Salmonella outbreak traced to sushi began, and that consumers and restaurants were still unaware of the potential danger posed by Salmonella-contaminated yellowfin tuna that could still be on the market.

The FDA, CDC, and state and local health departments pinpointed the Salmonella-contaminated yellowfin tuna as the source of the Salmonella outbreak after months of investigation and an analysis of several ingredients used to make sushi. Spicy tuna rolls were a common food eaten by Salmonella outbreak victims, as was yellowfin sushi or ceviche.

Salmonella Bareilly & Nichanga case count
