Kinikin Dairy Raw Milk Campylobacter Outbreak

In March and April 2009, a cluster of Campylobacter poisoning cases among residents of the Colorado Western Slope led health officials to the Kinikin Corner Dairy in Montrose, CO. Of the 12 people sickened, 10 had consumed raw milk, and eight of those knew their raw milk came from Kinikin Corner Dairy. The State halted production at the dairy. In mid-April, the State released strict regulations the dairy would have to follow to again produce raw milk. At the same time, the State emphasized that even though the dairy could re-open when it met the new criteria, the product would not be guaranteed as safe to drink. The health department went on to say that the only absolute safe milk would be pasteurized.
