Idaho Evergreen Fresh Sprouts source of Salmonella outbreak

As of July 9, 2011, a total of 25 persons with the outbreak strain of Salmonella Enteritidis have been reported from 5 states: Idaho (3), Montana (10), North Dakota (1), New Jersey (1) and Washington (10). According to public health officials victims became ill with after eating alfalfa sprouts and/or spicy sprouts from Evergreen Produce of Moyie Springs, Idaho.

Symptoms of Salmonella Infection

Symptoms of Salmonella infection include diarrhea, abdominal cramps, fever, nausea, and/or vomiting. In mild cases diarrhea from Salmonella may be non-bloody, occur several times per day, and not be very voluminous; in severe cases it may be frequent, bloody and/or mucoid, and of high volume.

Preventing Salmonella Infection from Alfalfa Sprouts

The FDA and the Idaho Department of Health is recommending that people avoid eating sprouts from Evergreen Produce and to discard any Evergreen Produce sprouts while the investigation is ongoing.
