McGriff Insurance Broker - October 2023

The Southern California-based McGriff Insurance Brokerage extended an invitation to Bill Marler to speak about foodborne illness and the real-life impacts on his clients. Fifty owner/operators attended from the food manufacturing industry. Bill brought a valuable perspective and fielded questions about food safety and the cases he has litigated against food makers. While Bill's focus on food safety and preventing foodborne illness outbreaks may not seem aligned with that of the food manufacturers, during his presentation Bill urged the audience to "Put me out of business, please." He shared stories about his clients that demonstrated the dire affects of foodborne illness and how managing risk to avoid food contamination should be of utmost importance to this group. A lively conversation ensued with ideas introduced about how creating a food safety culture and respect for regulations in a company can help to prevent foodborne illness outbreaks and personal tragedy.
