Bill Marler presented virtually to an audience that included laboratory managers, analytical chemists, microbiologists, toxicologists, forensic scientists and management executives. Association of Official Agricultural Chemists(AOAC) International holds conferences for a diverse group of professionals; its mission is to bring together government, industry and academia to establish and ensure the safety and integrity of foods and other products that impact health around the world.
In speaking to this group, Bill focused on why testing- clinical, environmental and product- with good epidemiology, is the key to a safer food supply.
"After 30 years of being involved in every major, and many minor foodborne illness outbreaks, I have a perspective on the changes from PFGE to WGS and from Cultures to PCR. I am convinced that good lab work along with good epidemiology, are the keys to solving outbreaks and avoiding the next ones", stated Bill Marler.
