Kelly Scott of the St. Cloud Times reports Richmond grocery store is voluntarily recalling some ground beef sold Thursday and Friday because of a possible E. coli contamination.
The article says:
Plantenberg Food Pride sold the meat in tube packages that weighed about 10 pounds each, owner Tucker Plantenberg said. Each clear, shrink-wrapped tube has a pack date of April 9 on the package. The tubes were sold during a one-day meat sale and no other products were involved.
The meat was bought for sale by the grocery store for its one-day sale, Plantenberg said. He estimated that the store sold about 5,000 pounds of the meat.
He said he wasn’t aware of anyone reporting illness related to meat sold in his store. The store was notified of a possible contamination by the supplier, he said. Plantenberg didn’t know what could’ve caused the contamination.
E. coli 1057:H7 bacteria, the type that caused the voluntary recall, can cause illness including bloody diarrhea, kidney failure or death, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Web site.
Infection usually is associated with eating undercooked beef, the Web site said. To prevent illness, officials recommend thoroughly cooking ground beef to at least 160 degrees.
Plantenberg urged customers not to eat the meat and return any unused meat to Plantenberg Food Pride for a complete refund. Customers with questions should call the store at (320) 597-2385.
