# Sheetz 'doing responsible thing' says food safety attorney

SEATTLE, WA — William Marler, the Seattle attorney representing sixty victims of an outbreak linked to Salmonella-contaminated food sold at Sheetz convenience stores, today praised Sheetz for actions the company has taken to compensate victims of the outbreak. Sheetz agreed today to pay victims’ medical bills and lost wages associated with their illnesses.

“Agreeing to compensate victims of this outbreak for medical expenses and lost wages will go a long way toward the amicable settlement of claims by individuals sickened,” Marler said. “Sheetz is on par with what Jack in the Box, Odwalla, ConAgra, and Pat & Oscar’s did when those companies were at the center of outbreaks.”

Sheetz has agreed to pay for expenses incurred by all of Marler’s clients.

“They’re not only doing the responsible thing,” Marler continued. “They’re showing that businesses really do care about their customers’ well being, and not just the bottom line.”

Marler represents residents of five states, including Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware, who were linked to the outbreak strain of Salmonella by health officials.

“Having a Salmonella infection is not a pleasant experience. It’s only right that these people are compensated for what they have gone through,” Marler concluded.

Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail, and elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Every year, approximately 40,000 cases of salmonellosis are reported in the United States. Because many milder cases are not diagnosed or reported, the actual number of infections is sometimes estimated to be twenty or more times greater. Victims of Salmonella infections suffer from intense abdominal cramping, bloody diarrhea, and nausea. Many have to be hospitalized, and it is estimated that approximately 1,000 persons in the United States die each year with acute salmonellosis.

People who believe they suffered a Salmonella infection can benefit by using the resources available at [](http://www.about-salmonella.com/)[www.About-Salmonella.com](http://www.About-Salmonella.com) and www.SalmonellaLitigation.com, Web sites that provide information on Salmonella poisoning and litigation resulting from Salmonella outbreaks.
