The Food Focus Conference comes during the largest Listeria outbreak in history which is centered in South Africa. To date, there have been a total of 948 laboratory confirmed infections and 180 deaths.
South Africa’s Minister of Health, Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi, announced on Sunday that the source of the outbreak was two brands of “polony” by Tiger Brands of Enterprise Foods and Rainbow Chicken Limited (RCL). All polony products have been recalled.
Bill Marler’s speech will give insight into his work with the 2011 Nationwide Jensen Farms Rocky Ford Cantaloupe Listeria Outbreak in the United States during which he represented the families for 45 victims. Marler Clark filed lawsuits on behalf of families of 28 people who died and 17 survivors securing nearly $25,000,000 in compensation for his clients. Bill will also talk about lessons learned after the groundbreaking E. coli Outbreak involving Jack in the Box where victims were awarded over $100,000,000 in settlements.
