National Western Stock Show E. coli Outbreak - Colorado (2009)

At least 30 people were infected with E. coli O157:H7 infections after visiting the January, 2009 National Western Stock Show, held in Denver. Investigators from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment blamed the E. coli outbreak on a "Feed the Animals" exhibit. Calves, goats, lambs, pigs and other farm animals were present at the petting zoo, and that food vendors were located on the same floor.

E. coli infection can lead to severe illness in the very young, and can be passed to others in the household. More information is available at www.about-ecoli.com.
