The investigation into the camp E. coli outbreak led to the determination that hamburgers served at the camp were the source of the outbreak. South Shore Meats, Inc., the company that supplied hamburger patties to Camp Bournedale, issued a recall for 1,039 pounds of fresh ground beef patties derived from bench trim and mechanically tenderized beef cuts on October 26, 2009 after MDPH confirmed a positive test for E. coli O157:H7 in meat supplied by South Shore Meats.
South Shore Meats distributed the recalled ground beef and steak products to wholesale distributors and institutions in Massachusetts.
