The recall covers lot codes L6079C and L6080C with expiration dates of September 19 and September 20, 2027. As of September 18, 2026, no illnesses have been reported. If the package is in your freezer, do not eat it.

**The recalled pasta is a Walmart house-brand frozen meal in a yellow package.**

The [company’s September 15 notice](https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2026/09/15/3362461/0/en/gias-foods-inc-recalls-bettergoods-authentic-italian-lemon-alfredo-fettuccine-because-of-possible-health-risk.html) describes one product: bettergoods Authentic Italian Lemon Alfredo Fettuccine, frozen, 22 ounces, in yellow plastic packaging, UPC 194346442706. Only two lots are recalled, L6079C and L6080C, and their expiration dates are printed as 09/19/2027 and 09/20/2027. The lot code and date are on the package. bettergoods is Walmart’s own label, and [Walmart’s recall page](https://corporate.walmart.com/recalls) lists the notice under September 15, 2026.

**State inspectors found the *Listeria*, not the company.**

The recall did not start with a sick customer or a company test. It started with routine sampling by the Washington State Department of Agriculture and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, which found the bacteria in finished packages. The company says it has stopped distributing the product and that it and FDA are investigating where the contamination came from. The notice does not say where the pasta was made, how many packages were sold, or whether the company tests its own product.

**No one has been reported sick yet, and that can change for weeks.**

A recall three days old cannot tell you much about illness, because *Listeria* is slow. [CDC](https://www.cdc.gov/listeria/signs-symptoms/index.html) says the serious form of the illness, called invasive listeriosis, usually begins within two weeks of eating contaminated food, and it can take longer. A milder intestinal illness, with diarrhea and vomiting, can start within a day and pass in one to three days. Anyone who ate this product in the last two months is still inside the window.

**Freezing does not kill *Listeria*, and a microwave does not always reach it.**

*Listeria* survives freezing and grows at refrigerator temperatures. Heating a frozen meal all the way through will kill it, but microwaves heat unevenly, and a cold spot in the middle of a cream sauce is where the bacteria survive. Do not try to cook your way around this recall. Throw the product out or return it.

**Pregnant women, newborns, adults over 65 and people with weak immune systems are the ones at risk.**

Most healthy adults who eat *Listeria* never know it. The people who get sick are pregnant women, whose own symptoms may be no worse than a fever and aches while the infection causes miscarriage, stillbirth, premature delivery or a life-threatening infection in the newborn; adults over 65; and people with weakened immune systems from cancer treatment, transplant medication, diabetes, kidney disease or HIV. In those groups the infection reaches the bloodstream or the brain, causing sepsis or meningitis. Last year’s outbreak tied to [prepared pasta meals sold at Walmart and Kroger](https://www.listeriablog.com/listeria-information/chicken-fettuccine-with-listeria-sickens-17-with-3-dead/), which came from a different company, [ended with 28 sick, 27 hospitalized and 7 dead](https://www.listeriablog.com/listeria-information/more-sick-and-dead-linked-to-listeria-tainted-pasta/).

**Here is what to do if the recalled pasta is in your freezer or you already ate it.**

Check the package for lot L6079C or L6080C and an expiration date of September 19 or 20, 2027. Do not eat it. Take it back to Walmart for a full refund, or seal it in a bag and throw it away. Wash any shelf, container or surface it touched with hot, soapy water. If you ate it and feel fine, watch for fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion or loss of balance over the next several weeks. If you are pregnant, over 65 or immunocompromised and you ate it, call your doctor now and say you ate a product recalled for *Listeria*. CDC’s advice is to contact a provider if you ate a recalled food and have a fever with other symptoms of listeriosis. Questions about the recall go to Gias Foods at sales@giasfoods.com or 917-675-4890.

**Three questions people are asking.**

**Which Walmart pasta is recalled for *Listeria*?** bettergoods Authentic Italian Lemon Alfredo Fettuccine, 22-ounce frozen, UPC 194346442706, lots L6079C and L6080C, expiration dates September 19 and 20, 2027, recalled by Gias Foods, Inc. on September 15, 2026.

**Can I just cook it longer?** No. Thorough heating kills *Listeria*, but microwaves leave cold spots, and the recall instruction is to return or discard the product, not to cook it.

**How long after eating could I get sick?** Invasive *Listeria* illness usually starts within two weeks, and sometimes later. Mild intestinal symptoms can start within a day. If you are pregnant, older or have a weak immune system, talk to a doctor now rather than waiting.

***Listeria***

*Listeria monocytogenes* is a bacterium that grows in refrigerator cold, hides in ready-to-eat foods, and causes one of the deadliest foodborne infections known. Pregnant women, newborns, adults over 65 and people with weakened immune systems are at the greatest risk, and in pregnancy an infection that feels like a mild flu can end the pregnancy or reach the baby.

**FAQ**

**What is *Listeria*?** *Listeria monocytogenes* is a bacterium found in soil, water and animals that contaminates food and, unlike most foodborne bacteria, keeps growing at refrigerator temperatures. Infection with it is called listeriosis.

**What foods cause *Listeria* outbreaks?** Ready-to-eat foods that are not cooked again before eating: deli meats and hot dogs, soft cheeses and raw milk, smoked seafood, cut melon, sprouts, packaged salads and prepared meals, and ice cream.

**Why is *Listeria* so dangerous in pregnancy?** A pregnant woman may have only a mild fever and aches, but the bacteria cross the placenta and can cause miscarriage, stillbirth, premature delivery or a life-threatening infection of the newborn. Symptoms can appear up to 70 days after eating the contaminated food, so a pregnant woman who ate a recalled product should tell her doctor even if she feels well.

**Can I sue if I got sick from *Listeria*?** Yes. If your infection is confirmed by a lab and linked to a contaminated product or an outbreak, you may have a claim against the companies that made and sold the food. Marler Clark offers a free case evaluation.
